History and traditions
The Icelandic literature was created by the inhabitants of Iceland from the country’s settlement in the 9th century to the present. Read all about our literature heritage below, and read some Icelandic history – all the way from 874, when some Irish families and hermits immigrated long before the Norvegians started their settlement up until two volcanic eruptions in 2010.
