HUNAVATN

Region: North Iceland
Coordinates: 65.4967° N 20.3233° W

Lake Hunavatn is at sea level. The Salmon river Vatnsdalsa enters it from the south and the outlet flows through the estuary, Hunaos. A short distance from the estuary the salmon river Laxa empties into the lake. The lake abounds in fish. There is no limit to the number of permits sold per day. The main catch is sea char, 1-2 pounders, and sea trout.

The salmon has to run through the lake, but rarely bites. There is some lake char and brown trout in the lake as well. The lake is accessible by car and the lodge, Steinakot, on the lake Vatnsdalsflod is used by the anglers.

The distance from the capital is 253 km by the Whale Bay tunnel and 12 km from Blonduos.
