This river is the discharge of lake Helluvatn and other smaller ones in the mountains.It is a 40 km long run off river, which flows mostly calmly through its course.
Its banks are well vegetated and the fishing spots are easily accessible. The catch consists mainly of sea char and trout and an occasional salmon is also caught every season.
The distance from the capital is about 475 km and 50 km from the village Egilsstadir to the estuaries.
