Eyjar is an abandoned farm and nowadays a summer residence at Balar in The Strandir District.
According to the Thorgils Saga and Haflida, the farms name was Oddbjarnareyjar in the past. Above the farm rises the precipitous Mt Eyjahyrna with the prominent waterfall Blaeja (Veil).
Rather a large eider colony was among the advantages of the farm. Off the coast are a few islands and skerries. The island Strakaey was named after the French whalers, who occupied it one winter and left some traces of houses there. Red bricks left behind on the island suggest whale fat processing during their stay.
