Bordeyri is an old trading post and now a small commercial centre for farms in the vicinity. In the past, commerce was thriving and in the 19th century, a great number of live sheep were exported from here to various parts of Europe, but mostly to England.
A visit requires a slight detour from Road #1 and it is worth one’s while. Good trout and char fishing in nearby lakes and streams, and some of the country’s best salmon rivers are in the vicinity.
