SELA

Region: Strandir
Coordinates: 65.7721° N 21.6846° W

This river is the one with the greatest volume and one of the longest in the Northwest. Its sources lie 500 m above sea level and its system is widespread. The main road crosses its lowest part. In earlier times it is said to have been dangerous and difficult to ford, but after bishop Gudmundur the good consecrated it with holy water no more accidents occurred. The catch consists mainly of sea char, which sometimes seems to have Its own mind. A few salmons have been caught in the river as well. There are many fishing spots along the riverbanks, most of them in the lower parts. Four rods are permitted per day.
The distance from the capital is about 288 km by the Whale Bay tunnel and 15 km from Holmavik.
