Years ago, some local businessmen leased the river and dumped vast hordes of smolt and parr into it. It transformed the river and for a few years up to 350 salmon were taken there in a single season. As the fishing stepped up a gear, the farmers at the lake became immensely interested in “Trout fishing” and put out more and more nets. In a few years the Salmon runs had disappeared and the leasers lost interest. Recently, a new group of leasers have rallied but before they did, they bought up the lake netting rights.
