Mel­gerdismelar

Region: North Iceland
Coordinates: 65.6631299° N 17.941693° W

Mel­gerdismelar, site of an airfield built during World War II, for some years the main airfield in northern Ice­land. Now only used for gliders. There is geological evidence that the Eyjafjordur fjord reached all the way to Mel­gerdis­melar, that is close to Akureyri airport.
