Thorisstadir Travel Service has operated this private golf course. Its construction and development has been gradual from the beginning.
The golf course is located near most famous attractions of the country and is the richest in Saga literature and is connected with an abundance of Sagas, such as The Book of Settlements, Gunnlaugssaga, Hardarsaga Njalssaga, Laxdaelasaga, Egilssaga, Eyrbyggjasaga, The Greenlander Saga and the Gislasaga. Not far from the golf course is fine a fishing lakes and the beautiful Whale Bay branches into the mountainous landscapes between the points Akranes and Kjalarnes. It is about 30 km (20 miles) long, 4-5 km wide, and quite deep (84m). The innermost part is framed with steep mountains, dropping almost straight into the sea, but further west are extended lowland areas. Near by is Hallhrims church belongs to the Saurbaer benefice in the Borgarfiord deanery. It was consecrated in 1957 to commemorate one of the most beloved poets of the country, who lived in the 17th century, and was named after him. The stained windowpanes are the work of the artist Gerdur Helgadottir, who sought inspiration in the Hymns of Passion of Rev. poet Hallgrimur Petursson, when she made them.
