The sources of this river are in the mountains and valleys behind the bay Hamarsfiord into which it eventually discharges. This bay as well as the next one, Alftafiord, is actually more like a lagoon with a big reef separating it from the sea. The catch consists of sea char of different sizes and the occasional salmon. There are many good fishing spots along the river banks and the fishing area is only about 6 km long.
The distance from the capital is about 560 km and 12 km from Djupivogur.
