Sudavik is said to be a caricature in miniature of the Western Fiords and as such is popular among visitors from all over. In January 1995 a tragic avalanche hit the village with severe loss of life and property. The village has been rebuilt in an area not threatened by avalanches and now offers services in grand buildings. All activities now prosper, the main ones being fishing and fish processing and catering to tourists. The annual income per person in Sudavik is the highest in Iceland. Many beautiful places to explore are in Sudavik and its vicinity and one can choose from hiking, mountain climbing, bird watching, sea cruises, deep sea angling, and fishing in nearby lakes and rivers.
