Lake Aravatn has an area of 1,9 km². It is rather shallow and situated at 130 m above sea level. Its discharge, River Nesa, runs through quite a few lakes on its way to the sea.
It is possible to drive most of the seven km from the main road to the lake on a bad track. The catch consists of lake char and brown trout. The distance from the capital is about 360 km by the Whale Bay tunnel and 50 km from the town Saudarkrokur.
