Lake Ljosalandsvatn has an area of 0,41 km². It is shallow and situated 244 m above sea level. The lake is about midways between the fishing towns Vopnafjordur and Bakkafjordur in the northeastern part of the country
Its discharge, Storilaekur, spills into the bay Vopnafiord. From the main road a passable road for all vehicles lies all the way to the lake. The lake abounds in small lake char. The lake has not been netted sufficiently yet.
The distance from the capital is 641 km by the Whale Bay tunnel and 17 from Vopnafjordur.
