These islands are the southernmost of the so-called Western Islands of the Breidafiord Bay. They are ten, and along with Island Stagley, they were rather densely occupied until they were totally abandoned. They constituted the oldest fishing outfit of the country. In 1703, about 50 open boats with about 230 fishermen were operated from there.
According to the Laxdaela Saga Gudrun Osvifursdottir’s last husband, Thorkell Eyjolfsson, drowned there.
