SOG RIVER

Region: South Iceland
Coordinates: 64.007° N 20.9738° W

Iceland’s largest spring fed river and a famous salmon river. It has been on a downswing for quite a few years as a result of bad neighbours, electricity plants dotted along the rivers upper reaches. It also used to be Iceland’s number one haunt for huge salmon. This has changed drastically. On the good side though, the river has been better managed in recent years and has been improving. Char fishing has also been up and coming, but the river’s Brown Trout, formerly Iceland’s finest, seem to be lost. The river is fished with 11 rods on Salmon beats plus a few on char beats. Each beat has a well equipped self catering lodge. The river is also one of Iceland’s most beautiful rivers. A joy to fish from that point of view. About 60 km from the capital.
