This small oasis is situated at the eastern edge of the vast lava area Odadahraun. The road to Askja crosses the spring fed river, where a small waterfall cascades into a pool, which usually abounds in brown trout. This is a very arid area, but narrow strips along the river are sparsely vegetated, mainly with willow and grasses. The river is about 12-13 kilometres long and the ford is safe.
