The hut is located on the nunatak Esjufjoll at 701 metres above sea level in the realm of the glacier tongue Breidamerkurjokull. The first hut was built in 1951 (was blown away in 1977). The second hut was built in 1977 (was blown away in 1999), and the third in 2002 to accommodate 6-12 people.
This hut is locked, but those who make prior arrangements, usually are granted permission to stay there overnight.
