Self drive from Reykjavik

INDIVIDUAL EXCURSION ITINERARIES FROM CAPITAL AREA & REYKJANES

Gullfoss-Geysir ( The Golden Circle) one or two days.

Drive over a part of the highland plateau Hellisheidi to Hveragerdi or over Mosfellsheidi to Thingvellir National Park then to Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir hot spring, and of the country’s most important historic sites, Skalholt and hamlet Laugaras, other sights at the Fludir and Arnes/Thjorsardalur farmlands. The distance for this tour is about 270-300 Km.

Eyrarbakki-Stokkseyri-Selfoss-Hveragerdi

Drive over a part of the highland plateau Hellisheidi, drive trough Threngsli (Þrengsli) to Eyrabakki and Stokkseyri then to Selfoss to Hveragerdi and over Hellisheidi plateau back to Reykjavik.
The distance for this tour is about 140 km.

Reykjanes-Blue Lagoon-Grindavik

Bessastadir, the presidential residence, drive through Reykjanes area to the fishing village Grindavik, the Blue Lagoon, a man made pool in the lava. The distance for this tour is about 120 km.

The Lava Circle

Drive through Reykjanes area to the fishing village Grindavik, the Blue Lagoon, a man made pool in the lava, then continue to Thorlakshofn fishing village, then to Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri hamlets then to Selfoss and Hverargerdi before passing plateau Hellisheidi to Reykjavik The distance for this tour is about 185 km.

South Shore,

Drive over a part of the highland plateau Hellisheidi to Hveragerdi Along the south shore, with two waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss, view to Myrdalsjokull glacier and the small village Vik. Returning via Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri and through the Threngsli lava plateau between the mountains to Reykjavik. The distance for this tour is about 390 km.

Kaldidalur – Highland interior

A drive from Reykjavik through the green valleys of Borgarfiord onwards to Reykholt and the Hraunfossar waterfalls near Husafell and through the desolate landscape of Kaldidalur between the glaciers. Returning to Reykjavik via Thingvellir National Park. The distance for this tour is about 270 km.
