The ferry Sæfari has a schedule between Dalvík and Grímsey all year. The tour takes 3 hours each way and the capacity of the ferry is 108 passengers, in addition to cars and cargo. During wintertime the ferry has three departures a week but during summer it has five departures a week. The stop in Grímsey varies according to time of year and weekdays.
The village Dalvík is approx 40 km north of Akureyri, or about 35 minutes drive.
Schedule:
From Dalvík at 9.00 AM, arriving Grímsey at 12.00 AM
During winter (1.9 – 31.5) the ferry stop in Grímsey is normally two hours.
During summer (1.6 – 31.8) the ferry stop is approx. four hours (though with some exceptions). If it stops for 4 hours the departure from Grímsey is at 16.00 PM with arrival Dalvík at 19.00 PM
During summer it is recommended to pre-book on the ferry as the limit of the ferry is 108 passengers. Tickets can be booked and bought at the Tourist Information in Akureyri (Hof Cultural house at Standgata 12, or by calling (+354) 450 1050
Note if you plan to take a car with you it needs to be at the ferry harbour at least 1 hour prior to departure.
Bus “Strætó” nr. 78 leaves Akureyri every weekday at 08.15, arriving Dalvík at 08.50. The stop is at the gas-station N1 in Dalvík and then passengers need to take about 10 minutes’ walk down to the ferry harbor. Note! One can ask the driver to stop closer to the harbor.
Note there is very short time between arrival of the bus to Dalvík and departure of the ferry so it is important to book and buy the ticket beforehand otherwise passengers’ risk to miss the ferry.
