Hoffell is an estate in the Nesjar County.  According to the Book of Settlements, Audun the Red bought this land from Hrollaugur, the first settler of the area, and built a large temple there.  Among the precious and semiprecious stones found in great quantities in the mountains of the property are marble, Iceland spar, opals and jaspers.

The largest Iceland spar ever found in the country weighed 175 kg.  It was transported to the capital and sold to Germany for a very high price.  The area is rich in rhyolite, which might point to a large, extinct central volcano.  Mining of the aforementioned stones was started in the early 20th century, but was not continued.
