 Iceland on your own

Þingvellir is Iceland's national shrine, where Europe's eldest national legislative assembly, The Icelandic Parliament, was established in the year 930. Major events in the history of Iceland have taken place at Þingvellir and all Icelanders hold the place in high esteem. According to the law, passed in 1928, the protected area shall always be the property of the
Icelandic nation, under the preservation of the Alþing. The first stop is by Hakið, from where there is a spectacular view over the fields and Lake Þingvellir (83 sq.km).  From the Hakið the bus continues to Hotel Valhöll in Þingvellir, where an approx. 45 minutes stop is made before heading across the Lyngdalsheiði heath, Laugarvatn and on to Geysir hot
spring area.  In this area the main attraction is Strokkur, a hot sprin that erupts on average every 5-6 minutes.  The stop is approx.1,5 hours and then the bus continues on to Gullfoss, the Golden Waterfall. The same route is taken back to Reykjavík
