CIRCLE PASSPORT
Highland Circle Passport
Passport is ideal for
those who want to see the interior of Iceland on a clear, pre-decided
route. The starting point is in Reykja-vík and from there the route
continues to Selfoss village. There you choose the direction to take:
1) You can continue along route nr. 1 on through the coastal villages,
Hella, Hvolsvollur, Skogar, Vik and
aeto Skaftafell
National Park, from where you would then travel back to
Kirkjubaejarklaustur and to Landmannalaugar
Oasis. From Landmannalaugar the route lies north, to Hrauneyjar
Highland Center and continues across Sprengisandur Interior route to
Lake Myvatn in the north. From Lake Myvatn you
take a bus to Akureyri and return south via interior route Kjölur,
which lies from north to south Iceland, in between glaciers and along
hot spring areas. This route connects with Highway nr. 1 in
Selfoss, from where you go to Reykjavík tocomplete the circle.
2) Option two is taking the bus from Reykjavík across Kjolur route,
via Selfoss to Akureyri. This is the opposite circle
to option 1, i.e. you travel from Akureyri to Lake Myvatn
and from there you travel south across Sprengisandur interior
route to Landmannalaugar. From Landmannalaugar the route goes on to
Kirkjubaejarklaustur and Skaftafell, from where you travel along the
south coast to Reykjavík.

Routes 11 and 11a Skaftafell - Eldgja - Landmannalaugar
Routes 14 and 14a Landmannal. - Sprengisandur - Myvatn
