TOUR DESCRIPTION

Reykjavk hiking offers magnificent trip through lava and history with local guide to a top of a volcano. The trip takes you trough Brfellsgj canyon which is 3,5 km long lava pathway running from the volcano Brfell which is 179 meters high. The canyon that we walk trough was the channel through which red-hot magma flowed when Brfell eruption took place 7000 years ago. The hike is an easy 7 km hike that tells a story of history, caves and geology.

TOUR DETAILS:

The Hiking Bus will pick you up from your hotel between 9 and 9:30 am and a 30 minute drive will take you to the start of the hike. The climb and descent takes between 2,5 and 4 hours and the bus brings you back to your hotel in the early afternoon. The hike is in small grupes at a leisurely pace that suits all ages and levels of fitness. 

TOUR GUIDES:

The Reykjavik Hiking guides are highly experienced mountain guides with academic backgrounds in natural sciences, geology and geography. They are all born and raised in Reykjavk and will, during the hike, be sharing with participants their knowledge of the natural surroundings, as well as the history and culture of the area.

EQUIPMENT:

Good hiking and outdoor equipment is important for hiking in Iceland. Participants will need to have good hiking boots, warm clothing and a wind and waterproof shell.  A backpack and trekking poles are also useful. All the necessary equipment can be rented for a small fee.

Reykjavik Hiking offers daily hikes up Mount Esja, the City-Mountain of Reykjavk. At 914 meters, Mount Esja dominates the Reykjavik skyline and is situated only 10km north of the city.

Mount Esja has many beautiful hiking trails, varying in levels of difficulty. The view from the summit is breath-taking and the mountain has interesting and varied plant and animal life, as well as a fascinating geological history. The Hiking Bus provides an opportunity to hike up Mount Esja with highly experienced and knowledgeable local guides.
