The Volcano Huts are located in the Thorsmork nature reserve in Iceland, situated in the Husadalur valley, between towering glaciers and volcanoes. The area can best be described as a hikers paradise where you will find endless hiking trails that lead you through beautiful, volcanic landscapes. Here you will experience Icelandic nature at its best and meet interesting people that share your passion for nature and adventure. The Volcano Huts offer accommodation in small cottages, shared cabin-dorms, private bedrooms and camping grounds surrounded by unique volcanic nature. Restaurant
Food: The LavaGrill is the heart of the Volcano Huts and offers rich and hearty meals, prepared with love and Icelandic ingredients. We offer breakfast, lunch and dinner, homemade cakes and coffee. We can also send you off with a packed lunch or a picnic basket. The bar offers a selection of local beers and cocktails. Here, you can linger in the LavaSPA natural hot pool and sauna, read a book from our library or exchange stories with other travelers around the campfire. We have a small playground for the youngest generation and we have trunks, full of toys such as Frisbees, footballs, crocket sets and other fun stuff for people of all ages. What to do Most people come for the endless hiking possibilities in and around Thorsmörk, while others come for a short stop and a meal at the LavaGrill. Here, you can linger in the LavaSPA natural hot pool and sauna, read a book from our library or exchange stories with other travellers around the campfire. Hiking trails Some people choose to go on shorter walks and return to the Volcano Huts in the afternoon, while others may venture deeper into the mountains on their way along the Laugavegur hiking trail, which connects Thorsmörk and the Landmannalaugar area. Free guided hiking tours every day! Every day of the week from the 1st of June until the 1st of September, our guides set out on a 1,5 – 2 hours long hiking tours from the Volcano Huts. The hiking tour starts at 12:30 and you are welcome to join us on these walks. All the walks are easy to moderate and will give you a little insight into the volcanic landscapes of Thorsmörk and its history. No need to book ahead! How to get here The best way to get here is by bus, as you will have to cross a few big rivers on the way. You can take the bus all the way from Reykjavik or leave your car and hop onboard the bus at various stops along the way.
