Golf Club Vestarr was founded in 1995 and the construction work for a 9 hole golf course was starged in spring 1996. The name of the golf course is derived from the ancient name of the Italian Bari.

The village Grundarfjordur is situated on an exceptionally beautiful bay. The bay is nearly encircled by impressive and graceful mountains, which offer spectacular variations. French fishermen were granted a base in Grundarfjordur from 1800-1860 and they built a hospital and a church there during that period.
