Golf Club Sudurnes was founded on March 4th 1964.  The Leira farms' property was allotted for its golf course and it was named after ain islet just off the coast.  The construction work required the removal of stone walls around many small farms and a myriad of boulders before the area could be flattened.  The 18 hole golf course and the club house were inaugurated on July 6th 1986.  Since then, a new equipment shed, a separate training hall, and a restraurant (on hole 10) have been added.  This golf course also offers a 9 hole training course (The Joel).  It is among the most popular golf courses of the country.
