Golf Club Kopavogur & Gardabaer was founded March 24th 1994 with the support of the authorities of both communities.  Its golf course is on the community property Vifilsstadir of the town Gardabaer.  In 1996, 9 holes were added and in 2002, 9 training holes were added on the community property of town Kopavogur.  According to future plans, its courses will be 27 in 2007.

Kopavogur is a fast growing town and the second largest of the country. It has been developing since the forties. The municipal authorities have gone out of their way to attract all kinds of businesses and have been quite successful.

The town Gardabaer received its municipal rights in 1976 and has been one of the fastest growing communities of the country.
